I'm now in my 70th year and although this church is my local parish I tend not to attend. Maybe it's me, but I've found that you can walk in and out of the place without anyone bothering to say anything at all to you. I've been trying to get into a regular routine of going to Mass again after sometime away from the sacraments and to that end have been to the church half a dozen times or so since Ash Wednesday. However, it appears so unfriendly I've lost heart and now just wait until the Saturday evening vigil has started before creeping in to buy a copy of the Catholic Herald and then beating a retreat home! There must be some really good people that go there but unfortunately maybe they don't call the shots. Overall I just think it is very "cliquey" and if you're not part of the set up then it's just too bad. A smile from someone on the door would make all the difference. Is that too much to ask?
Lovely old church, visited here for a wedding.
I disagree with 2 of the comments here. Although I'm not yet a Catholic, the parish has been very welcoming, very friendly and the priest has been great with me so far. It's all about making yourself known, making yourself at home and being there for Christ. Social aspects are secondary that comes outside of mass if you seek it.
A welcoming and warm community
I must agree with the last post. I attended this parish a few weeks and no one welcome me or even asked if I had moved into the area or whether I was visiting. I didn't find the parish priest welcome either. Very disappointing.
