I felt thoroughly checked and listened to at my 2 recent appointments. I have not long joined the surgery, but I feel its the best surgery I have ever joined. The care and information given to me recently has been fantastic couldn't fault them.
I have been using this surgery for 40 years and have found it be great. I think the problems that are faced here is due to government issues not the practice.The reception team are considerate and friendly as are the nurses.Good job Fern House
In fairness, Witham is expanding but the infrastructure is not, so while developers happily build another thousand houses, that's just huge pressure on the surgery. When you do finally get an appointment, the doctors are caring and attentive to you needs, but they are being flogged to death by Braintree Council who continues to allow expansion without additional infrastructure or resources. If I could change anything there, I would ask that the receptionists either don't ask you for the reason you want to see a doctor, that breaches patient confidentiality, or build a private booth where the patient has some privacy. So please, the next time you are hanging on the phone, blame the local town planning authority.
I find there are mostly cons with this surgery...I joined almost a year ago and having relocated to the area was unfortunately suffering with anxiety and depression. I was seen by Dr Navin Skaria who couldn't get me out of his office fast enough. His exact words were, "here is a prescription for 20mg of Citalopram, which I've put on repeat for a year". Those words have stuck with me and I can honestly say a doctor has never made me feel more ashamed of my condition or desperately isolated in all my life. End of conversation. I have seen a couple other doctors though who were more professional. Dr Parang Asfar and Dr Caroline Wright are considerate and professional and I'd happily see them again in the future. The receptionists insist you tell them your reason for seeing a doctor in a waiting room full of people. Whilst it's to help them understand if you can be seen by a doctor/nurse/nurse prescriber, which is a good thing, I personally think there is a better way for them to do this and save their patients the embarrassment of saying out loud the reasons for attending the surgery. For example they could present you with a list of issues and explain that for less serious matters a nurse prescriber would be quicker and possible just as helpful...They have an online service but in order to join you have to go into the surgery to sign up which to me makes zero sense! The opening hours are a disgrace given they service a town in which 40% of the community commute to and from London each day. They could at least open on a Saturday morning to help those of us who leave for London at 7am and don't get back to Witham until 7pm.
Good doctors surgery with some really good staff, however extremely understaffed for the amount of patients, probably due to keep building new homes and not building a new infrastructure to accommodate the increase of people in the area. so end up with long times to get appointments, long time to get through on phone, queues of people waiting for reception, lots of people in waiting rooms etc. good place just needs more money and more staff but unlikely to happen with current nhs finances.
